Why Boycott Israeli Goods?

Enough is enough! It's time to stop the killing!
Both sides need to embrace the peace process.

Only economic pressure will convince Israel to end the occupation.

It's time for Israel to withdraw from the Occupied
Territories of the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights!

It's time that Palestinians had their own country!

It's time that Israel stopped the economic blockades and their numbing, overpowering control over the lives of Palestinians!

It's time that Israel conformed to UN resolutions!

It's time for the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank to be shut down and abandoned!

It's time that the Apartheid Wall was pulled down!

It's time to be as concerned about about Palestinian security as Israeli security! Both peoples need security.

It's time that Israel knows that we won't tolerate the absorption of the West Bank and Gaza into 'Greater Israel'.

Boycott Israeli Goods in Hastings

All large shops in Hastings and throughout the South East (Morrison's, Tesco, Sainsbury, Lidl, Waitrose) stock some Israeli produce.

Most produce (except flowers) is labelled clearly, so it is possible to find alternatives.

Peppers

Many of the sweet capsicum peppers (red, yellow, green) sold in Britain in winter are sourced in Israel. Some are grown in illegal West Bank settler communities. In most stores it is still possible to buy peppers from Spain or Holland or even better, from the UK.

Grapefruit

Many sold in Hastings are of Israeli origin.

Avocados

Are a very large export from Israel to Britain.

Fresh herbs

Most fresh herb selections sold in Hastings include products grown in Israel. Watch the labels carefully, and choose products grown right here in England.

Flowers

Israel is a very large exporter of greenhouse grown flowers. Unlike fruit and vegetables flowers are rarely labelled as to origin. Any bouquet of mixed flowers is likely to contain at least one variety of Israeli origin. If your florist can't tell you where every flower is from, choose not to buy that bouquet at all. On Valentine's day, express your love with Fair Trade chocolate instead.

Other

Watch for sweet potatoes, melons, tomatoes, sharon fruit, pomegranate seeds, citrus (orange, lemons, etc), passion fruit, cherry tomatoes, dates. The brand name 'Carmel' is often a clue to Israeli origin.

Ask the manager of your local supermarket to stop stocking Israeli goods. Failing that, ask them to make sure that all flowers are labelled as to origin. Ask them to ensure that there are always alternatives to Israeli products available for purchase.

Hastings Against War meets Brighton Tubas Solidarity Friendship Group

Our guests from Brighton described their project working in a small community of the Tubas region of the West Bank. Their goal is to foster links between people in the region of Tubas, occupied Palestine, and groups in Brighton. Several people from the group have been to the Tubas region and have helped to defend local people building a school. They felt that one thing that people in Hastings could do to counter the Israeli policy of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank is to support the boycott of Israeli products.
